INTERNET PROJECT CLASS 2017 - 2018
GENERAL PROJECT GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS
The four deliverables to validate your project
are:
A learning diary
|
A written report
online
|
Communication throughout the project
|
An interactive oral presentation
|
1)
A learning diary/log.
Including a
summary of your work with an approximation of the number of hours you've spent. Please
break it down and itemize your work (if possible by date or by general time
period).
A MS Word or
Google document with a table with several columns is fine for that (Please, not
a spreadsheet). Reading things for the project, watching videos for the
project, communicating with others (and me), time spent following and
commenting on the projects of the other project students are all fine things to
count.
You can add your project links and follow the
other links from the class blog, http://projects2016-2017.blogspot.frhttp://projects2015-2016.blogspot.fr/ and http://projects2014-2015.blogspot.fr/ with links to previous projects.
Your total project
work should account for the equivalent of 2 language credits, i.e. a normal
English course. I'd like to see at least around 20 to 30 hours of work
accounted for, but it can be more :-).
(A semester-long
class with 15 sessions of 90 minutes is already 22.5 hours, plus homework, so
around 30 hours for one course, but we also have some semesters with only 10
class sessions so that works out to less time for the same credits. 10 times 90
minutes is 15 hours plus homework is about 20 hours... That's the low-end.)
2)
A written report online:
A blog or a simple
website is fine for that. But something that we can share with other students
that gives an overview of your project work and maybe some examples of what
you've done. It may include links to other online sources and embedded videos,
but should contain at least about 5 pages of text describing your project and
highlighting and illustrating some of your investigations.
This report can also be a video that you make to
illustrate your work on the project. (We
want to keep this online so please use a pseudo to create it and not
necessarily your real name.)
3)
A 20-minute oral presentation of
your project (and then 10 or 15 minutes of discussion):
Preferably
using some slideware (PowerPoint, or Prezi-like) to illustrate your main
points. (It would be good to plan to spend at least one preparatory
session/meeting with me before the day of the final presentation. Just to be
sure it's not a "Death by Powerpoint" presentation. See: http://www.presentationzen.com )
4)
Communication
throughout your project:
Staying
in touch with me, ideally every two weeks, at least 6 or 7 times in a semester…
by coming to see me, skyping, or at least sending me an email with a progress
report.
Post a description of your project for the other
students on the class blog, http://projects2016-2017.blogspot.fr
(label
“projects”) and communicating in English
with people while working on your project-- skype or email or forums using the
Internet, or in real-life.
Looking forward to
helping you with your projects and discovering your work.
